How colivingDB verifies its data
Every number on this site has a source. Here's exactly where each one comes from — and what we refuse to do with data.
The one rule: never invent a number
If an operator doesn't publish a monthly rate, we show their nightly or weekly rate — we never multiply it out into a fake monthly figure (real coliving pricing is steeply non-linear; a month is typically 40–60% cheaper per night than a night). If there's no price at all, the listing honestly says "price on request." A blank is data; a made-up number is a lie.
Where each data point comes from
Prices — the operator's own website (their published rates, in their own currency), or the structured pricing data embedded in their booking pages. Currency labels are verified, not trusted blindly. A price marked est. is our own estimate, pulled from a marketplace listing or booking page we haven't yet confirmed with the operator — we're emailing operators to verify these and drop the tag once they confirm. An untagged price comes from the operator's live listing or a figure they've confirmed to us directly, dated on our end and re-checked with responsive operators over time.
Ratings — Google Maps, matched to the operator's own website domain so a listing can never inherit the rating of a nearby hotel or café. Ratings older than 30 days are refreshed or dropped.
WiFi speeds — only what operators publish themselves, labelled "operator-reported" (the headline figure is download speed; upload and context appear alongside it when the operator provides them). We never estimate. Country-level medians come from Ookla's Speedtest Global Index, attributed.
What's included, second-guest policies, deposits — extracted from operator websites; absent fields stay absent rather than guessed.
Climate — ERA5 reanalysis data (2022–2024 monthly averages) via Open-Meteo, computed for each listing's exact coordinates.
Airports & distances — computed from the OurAirports open dataset; the "major hub" is the home country's busiest airport by passenger data (Wikidata), because crossing a border for a marginally closer airport is real friction.
UNESCO sites & national parks — official designations with coordinates, via Wikidata, with straight-line distances.
Visa quick-facts — researched against current official and reputable sources, dated, and always accompanied by a "verify with official sources" disclaimer. Rules change; treat ours as a starting point.
Currency conversion — live FX rates (base EUR), refreshed on every visit; the operator's native figure is always what ships in the page.
Photos — the preview image each operator designates on their own website (their og:image), credited, or photos operators send us directly. If yours appears and you'd like it changed or removed, please contact us and we'll aim to sort it as fast as we can.
What we don't do
No login walls, no email gates — every listing is fully visible to everyone.
No pay-to-rank. Sorting is by data (price, rating), never by who pays us.
No invented "scores." We show sources, not black-box rankings.

Prices and dates change constantly. If something's wrong, tell us and we'll fix it as fast as we can. Operators: send us your current rates, measured WiFi speed, and 2–3 photos and we'll update your listing.
